Mountain Hares
The Peak District National Park is home to the only English population of Mountain Hares. These beautiful animals have not changed since the last ice age, with their pelage changing from brown to white every winter to help them blend into their historically wintery, white surroundings. These iconic and charismatic mammals are highly sought after by photographers and wildlife lovers alike but they can be challenging to find, approach and photograph. We will spend the day searching the moors for these elusive animals in the hopes of capturing some stunning images, along with incredible memories of our encounters.
More than just photography
Mountain Hares are a challenging subject to photograph, so this workshop focuses not only on the photography but also essential fieldcraft necessary to approach them without causing undue stress and disturbance. Our goal is always to leave the hare how we find it. Having worked with them extensively over 7 years, I will be able to take us to the best locations where good encounters are more likely.
Best suited to more experienced photographers
Due to the nature of this workshop, it is not recommended for absolute beginners. A basic understanding of settings and focus is important for you to get the most out of the day. This workshop can be tailored more towards wildlife watching rather than photography if this is your preference.
Groups or individuals welcome
These workshops are run on a 1-2-1 basis unless you’re booking together as a group. Group sizes are limited to 2 to minimise disturbance to Hares and also to ensure everyone receives 1-2-1 support and tuition throughout the day. Larger group sizes are occasionally possible on request.
Gift vouchers available
Vouchers are available to purchase for this workshop and are also exchangeable for other workshops of the same value.
