Mountain Hare Photography Workshop
Despite Mountain Hares being indigenous to the UK, their numbers are dwindling in many areas where they once thrived due to indiscriminate and unrestrained culling. The Peak District is the only location in England where you can see these wonderful animals in their natural environment. Although challenging to approach, they can be one of the most rewarding animals to photograph.
What to expect
More than just photography
Mountain Hares are a challenging subject to photograph, so this workshop focuses not only on photography but also the essential fieldcraft necessary to approach the subject without causing undue stress and disturbance. Having worked with them extensively, I will be able to take us to the best locations where close encounters will be highly likely!
Best suited to more experienced photographers
Due to the nature of this workshop, it is not recommended for absolute beginner photographers. A basic understanding of settings and focus is important for you to get the most out of the day.
Groups or individuals welcome
Group sizes are limited to 2 to minimise disturbance to Hares and also to ensure everyone receives 1-2-1 support and tuition throughout the day. Larger group sizes are occasionally possible on request.

What have people said?
Ally – Photographing Hares with Tes in the Peak District was a fantastic experience. It was clear right from the off that Tes’ knowledge of the area as well as how to approach the Hares was second to none, and we had some great encounters with them. I had gone with the hope of taking some habitat shots showing the Hares in their environment as well as the frame filling portraits, and Tes didn’t disappoint! Tes’ field-craft skills were brilliant in reading the behaviour of the animals, enabling us to get up close to them. I’ve never crawled across the Peak District before and it was great fun! Not only was Tes’ knowledge of the area and ability to approach the Hares fantastic, she is passionate and enthusiastic about wildlife and great fun to chat to – I’d thoroughly recommend this workshop!
